Hi-ho, Hi-ho, it's off to work I go

I started a new job last week as a teller at a credit union. I am very grateful that I was able to secure a stable job with benefits. I will continue to teach at BYU-Idaho as long as the English department expresses a need, but this new job offers much more incentive for me as an employee. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy teaching, but I really don't like getting jerked around by the administration, never knowing if I'll have a job from semester to semester or being denied insurance benefits. Even if I only have a bachelors degree, I get sick too!

When the Fall semester starts in September, I will teach one, three hour class per week on Wednesday nights. I am excited to make changes to the course, based upon experience--what works, what doesn't, and hoping to make an impact on my students. More than anything, I want them to walk away feeling like they learned something valuable and that they didn't just waste their time.

As far as what I think about my new job so far? I feel like I'm picking it up pretty quickly, a lot quicker than I expected. It's a small CU; there are only four tellers and two managers, but everyone seems to work really well together. I particularly enjoy taking my lunch break when I take a short walk to a local park. I settle in with my lunch and enjoy the sun for an hour each day. Unfortunately, I will only be able to do that for another month or two if I'm lucky! It gets pretty cold here pretty fast. I will soak it in while I can!

In other news, Jeff and I will be celebrating our one year anniversary a week from today. It's kind of funny to think we've only been married for a year, but at the same time, it seems like an awesome accomplishment! I'm very grateful to be married to my sweetheart and can't wait to celebrate MANY more anniversaries with him!
